Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable production of titanium oxide calcined product having large surface area, excellent heat resistance as well as excellent strength after molding and suitable as a carrier or catalyst, by calcining solated metatitanic acid containing fine-particle silicic acid and W and Mo compounds. CONSTITUTION:(a) Fine-particle silicic acid known as white carbon of another name and having extremely large specific surface and (b) tungsten oxide and W compound which is a precursor capable of forming tungsten oxide by burning and/or Mo compound similar to the W compound are used. Metatitanic acid is preferably solated and component a and component b are added to the sol and mixed and the mixture is then burned. After component a and component b and added to metatitanic acid, metatitanic acid may be solated and mixed. Thus components a and b can be uniformly mixed with metatitanic acid. The mixture of metatitanic acid and components a and b obtained thus is dried and then calcined at about >=800 deg.C and pulverized to provided the powdery calcined product.
