Abstract

PURPOSE:To open a short circuit quickly and to prevent arc interruption by deciding a detected output current value and changing the amplification factor to the feedback signal of a current change rate control circuit to increase the change rate of the output current if the output current value is above a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:The amplification factor of the current change rate control circuit 17 decreases when the output current value increases to the prescribed current value corresponding to the reference signal from an overcurrent setter 20 or above upon generation of the short circuiting by plunging of a welding wire 13 into a base metal 11. The output current value of a welding power supply is, therefore, sharply increased to open the short circuit. The amplification factor of the current change rate control circuit 17 is held lowered in the section where the output current value is above the prescribed current even after the opening of the short circuit and, therefore, the output current value is sharply decreased down to the prescribed current value. Since the amplification factor of the current change rate control circuit 17 is returned to the ordinary amplification factor in the region of the current lower than said point, gentle current change is caused. The transfer to the stable arc is ensured by such sharp drop of the current value right after opening of the short circuit.
