Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the distance of ribbon separation long and dispense with a movable ribbon guide so that a structure may be simplified by tilting a thermal head at a sharper angle at the time of correction for hot printing and cold correction and at the time of printing for cold printing and hot correction in a thermal printer which performs printing operation using a single printing ribbon and correction operation for correcting print transferred to recording paper. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head 4 is positioned at a finely tilted angle with recording paper 2 at the time of printing for hot printing and cold correction, and a separation distance becomes a distance l between the heat generating part of the thermal head 4 and the point 6 of ribbon 3. At the time of correction, the angle becomes larger with the recording paper at the time of correction, and the separation distance becomes a distance L between the ribbon 3 and the point 7. Since the separation distance L, l is set to L>1, the ribbon 3 is caused to run at high temperature at the time of printing and low temperature at the time of correction. In the cold printing and hot correction mode, the thermal head 4 tilts significantly at the time of printing, and the separation distance becomes L. In the correct mode, the thermal head tilts insignificantly, and the separation distance becomes l. Because of the relation of L>l, the ribbon 3 is caused to run at low temperature at the time of printing and at high temperature at the time of correction.
