Abstract

PURPOSE:To assure secure correction and printing with a platen so designed as to be able to make a separation distance long while maintaining automatic adjustment function by causing a movable ribbon guide for printing ribbon in a platen direction at the time of correction for hot printing and cold correction and at the time of printing for cold printing and hot correction. CONSTITUTION:A movable ribbon guide 2 is positioned away from a platen 1, and a distance between the separation point of printing ribbon 5 and the heat generating part of a thermal head 3 is short with the temperature of the printing ribbon 5 being high and best suited to printing in the hot printing and cold correction mode. Since the platen 1 and the movable ribbon guide 2 are separated adequately, the platen 1 is controlled by automatic adjustment function to perform secure printing. In the correction mode, the movable ribbon guide 2 moves to a position where it is close to the platen 1, and recording paper 6 is pulled to a direction where the paper is separated from the platen 1 by the adhesive force of the printing ribbon 5 and the paper 6, although the paper is not brought into contact with the platen 1 under pressure. Consequently, the separation distance becomes long and the temperature of the printing ribbon 5 at the time of separation is short. At the same time, the temperature of the printing ribbon 5 at the time of separation is low and best suited to correction.
