Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase printing speed by providing a plurality of ink jet heads with a plurality of nozzles arranged at an equal interval, in an equally shifted position from each other, allotting printing character data to a plurality of ink jet heads and delaying the drive part of each ink jet head by prearranging timing. CONSTITUTION:For instance, two ink jet heads 20, 21 of the same type are arranged in a position shifted from each other by half the nozzle-to-nozzle distance. Data of an even-numbered line of character pattern data which is output per line from a character pattern generation circuit 30 is input to a head drive circuit 35 to drive the ink jet head 20 and print characters on a printing position P. Data of an odd-numbered line of the character pattern data is given to a head drive circuit 36 through driving of the ink jet head 21 by distance L and delaying the drive of the ink jet head by time required for the drive to the printing position P by a delay circuit 33 after completion of the ink jet head 20. Then the ink jet head 21 is driven to print characters on the printing position P. Under the above constitution, high speed printing is performed without clogging with ink.
