Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily carry out the heating of molten steel in parallel with refining without deteriorating the cleanliness of the molten steel, by disposing electromagnetic induction coils in the outside periphery of a refractory-exposed zone in which protective shell is removed in the lower part of a vacuum tank and then subjecting the circulating molten steel to induction heating. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic induction coils 6 are disposed around the outside periphery of a refractory-exposed zone 10 where a protective shell 8 of a lower tank 1' of a vacuum tank, in the part where molten steel is sucked, is partially removed over the whole periphery. An electric current is sent to the above electromagnetic induction coils 6, by which the molten steel flowing in the lower tank 1' is subjected to direct induction heating. Since the molten steel can be directly heated in parallel with vacuum degassing treatment, reduction in temp. of the molten steel under vacuum treatment can be reduced. Further, the control of tapping temp. can be advantageously relaxed.
