CONSTITUTION:When a recording paper 14 is being floated like a dashed line in the case where a carriage 11 is moved right by a recording command to enter a recording range, an output from a photodetector 47 is detected by a well know means, and the carriage 11 retreat to outside a recording range against an ink jet. Then, the recording paper is sent by a fixed amount, for instance, two lines by a paper feed means, and the carriage starts to be again moved. When no floating is detected on the recording paper by performing detecting operation again, recording operation starts. Detection operation is always not performed even in recording operation. A control part 40 always checks a signal from a detector, for instance, when recording of each line is started.
