Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the contamination of a recording medium or failure in ejection or breakage of a recording head from occurring, by a construction wherein the positions of partition walls for partitioning the interior of a platen according to the size of the recording medium and the positions of spitting parts of an energizing roller are out of register with each other in an auxiliary scanning direction. CONSTITUTION:When a recording medium PP larger than a minimum size is fed while being recorded, paper levitation occurs at splitting parts of an energizing roller 341B. The levitation W develops in the direction opposite to the feeding direction of the medium, and if a non-suction part is present due to the presence of a partition wall in the direction of the development, the levitation W may develop also on the front side of the platen 401, leading to a lower recording quality, or the medium may make contact with an ejection surface of a recording head 101, thereby contaminating or damaging the ejection surface. To avoid this, at least the length of each split roller of the energizing roller 341 is so set that the splitting parts of the energizing roller 341B are out of register with the partition walls 405 in the feeding direction of the medium.
