Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance durability, to widen a display area and to facilitate sealing of curved glass so that the process is shortened by melting the outside peripheral part of a pair of transparent substrates by a laser beam thereby sealing said part. CONSTITUTION:Curved glass substrates having a prescribed radius of curvature are used for the transparent substrates 1a, 1b and transparent conductive films 2a, 2b are formed on the surfaces of the glass substrates 1a, 1b. oriented films 3a, 3b for a liquid crystal are formed thereon. Spacers 4 consisting of alumina particles are disposed between the substrates 1a and 1b to control a cell gap. The laser beam is projected on the outside peripheral part of a pair of the transparent substrates 1a, 1b to melt said part. The sealing width is thereby confined to about 0.05-1mm and nevertheless the sufficient durability is obtd. The surface area is thus widened, the degree of freedom of design is widened and the sealing of the curved glass is facilitated.
