Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any engine stall due to control delay from occurring by setting the timing of control, selecting a supply route of pressurized air for scavenging at the time of idling, earlier when deceleration is large enough. CONSTITUTION:An intake air device for an engine E is provided with an air port 18 which opens a scavenging port 25 between an intake port 5 and an exhaust port 6 opened to an operating chamber 2, while interconnects a port air passage 24 to an exhaust passage 26, and being selectively connected to the port air passage 24 and the scavenging port 25 via an air control valve 22. Here a control unit 14 has a device, detecting deceleration of the engine E, and another device which sets such a select engine speed that is increased or decreased in response to size of the deceleration. With this constitution, a supply route of pressurized air being fed to the exhaust passage 26 for exhaust emission control at the deceleration can be completed before selecting control for scavenging air at the time of idling falls into low engine speed.
