Abstract

PURPOSE:To omit a complicated gear mechanism for detecting a torque by performing the torque detection of an electric power steering device by means of a magnetic means. CONSTITUTION:A 1st shaft 1 extends downward from a steering wheel. A 2nd shaft 2 is connected to be capable of making a specified relative angular displacement via a resilient coupling to the bottom end of the 1st shaft 1. A torque detector 30 is incorporated between the 1st and 2nd shafts. A cup-shaped drum 31 with its opening directed downward is fixed to the bottom end of the 1st shaft 1. A drum 33 equivalent to the upper drum 31, with its teeth directed upward and with an appropriate spacing between the upper drum 31, is fixed to the top end of the 2nd shaft 2. A ferrite core 35 is arranged in a position neighboring to the upper and lower drums 31 and 33. Forming a magnetic circuit between the drums and the ferrite and detecting the magnetic circuit with a magnetic circuit sensor 38, a torque is detected.
