Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the saturated magnetization and to obtain the coercive force of a suitable range by a method wherein the title magnetic powder is formed with the specific hexagonal barium strontium ferrite. CONSTITUTION:The title magnetic powder is composed of the hexagonal barium strontium ferrite indicated by the formula of Ba1-ySryFe12-2xMxM'xO19 (M indicates one or more kinds of metal element selected from Co, Ni and Zn, M' indicates one or more kinds of metal element selected from Ti, Ge, Nb, V, Zr and Hf, x indicates the positive number in the range of 0.4-1.2, y indicates the positive number in the range of 0.03-0.8.) A Ba element and an Sr element coexist in a suitable range as fundamental components of hexagonal ferrite, and the Sr element is substituted for the position of the Ba atoms in a molecular structure, said magnetic powder has excellent characteristics as the high density magnetic recording medium, which can not be obtained by the ferrite of Ba alone, or by the material which is merely mixed mechanically. In other words, the above-mentioned magnetic powder has high degree of saturated magnetization and the coercive force reduced to the appropriate region.
