Abstract

PURPOSE:To charge the surface of an object body for electrostatic charging substantially uniformly to a desired potential by charging the surface of the object body electrostatically by friction and then bringing a conductive member which is applied with a voltage or grounded into contact with the object body which is charge electrostatically by friction. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive drum 1 is charged electrostatically by friction to the surface potential V1 and then the conductive member 2 with the surface potential V2 satisfying ¦V1-V2¦>¦VTH¦ where VTH is the charge movement start potential difference of the photosensitive drum 1 is applied with a voltage VDC from a power source 3 or grounded and made to contact the drum 1.
