Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress torque impact when a supercharger is operated by providing a means for carrying out asynchronous fuel injection upon elapse of predetermined time after a solenoid switch for operating a mechanical supercharger is switched from OFF to ON. CONSTITUTION:A mechanical supercharger 12 comprising a Root's pump arranged in the way of an intake path 32 has a solenoid clutch 10 fixed to the end of rotor shaft 36 for one of two rotors 32. The solenoid clutch 10 has an input pulley 10a coupled through a timing belt 38 with a crank pulley 30, and the solenoid clutch 10 is ON/OFF controlled through a controller 64 based on operating state of engine. The controller 64 contains an asynchronous fuel injecting means, and when the solenoid clutch 10 is switched from OFF to ON, a fuel injection valve 20 is controlled such that asynchronous fuel injection is carried out upon elapse of predetermined time.
