Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to grind even a work smaller in diameter by providing a work cutting stone part at the middle of the width of a formed grindstone, and forming grinding stone parts for the left and the right shape of two works with the cutting stone part positioned at the above-mentioned middle respectively. CONSTITUTION:In machining the tip of a shaft-shaped work W, the left side of a work W2 is ground by the left and the middle grinding stone part 4c, 4b of a formed grindstone 4 with the work W overhangingly supported by a chuck 3b. Thus the work W is ground on its left side as the work W2, and since only the half of the work is ground to give weak grinding resistance to the grinding stone parts, the work can satisfactorily bear the grinding resistance by cantilever supporting. Next when the chuck 3b is opened, and a work feed gear 8 feeds the work W forward, the movable distance of the work W is controlled to a dimension long enough for a chuck 3a to grasp the middle ground portion of the work 2, end then the grindstone 4 advances with the works W2, W bilaterally supported by the chucks 3a, 3b to grind the work W. In this case, the right side of the work W2 is ground, and the work W is ground as the left shape of the work W2, and is simultaneously out by a work cutting stone part 4a at its middle. The work W2 is therefore formed into the work W1 having the right and left shapes having been ground.
