Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently carry out electric discharge truing/dressing of a grindstone by providing a tool rest for holding an electrode machining tool and the grindstone and moving the tool rest in directions parallel and perpendicular to a work spindle. CONSTITUTION:A work W held by a work chuck 5 is rotated, and a carriage (tool rest) 6 is slid on a sliding guide surface 3 to grind the work W with a metal bond grindstone 31 in a tool magazine 8 on the carriage 6. In the case of truing/dressing the grindstone 31, a bite 10 in the tool magazine 8 on the carriage 6 is indexed, and an electrode 21 on a tail stock 20 is lathed to generated a formed electrode. After the end of this generating, the grindstone 31 in the tool magazine 8 is brought into contact with the formed electrode under rotation, and voltage is applied across both the grindstone 31 and the formed electrode to carry out electric discharge and remove a metal portion only of the metal bond grindstone 31.
