Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the movement of a tool rest by providing an electrode on a spindle stock so as to carry out electric discharge truing/dressing of a metal bond grindstone at a position near a work machining position. CONSTITUTION:A tool rest 6 is moved to an electrode 13 located above a spindle stock 4 so as to cut the electrode 13 with a bite 8 of a tool turret 7 and thereby generate a formed electrode. After the end of this generating, the turret 7 on the tool rest 6 is rotationally indexed to approach a metal bond grindstone 31 on the tool rest 6 to the formed electrode. Under the condition, a power supply for electric discharge machining is operated to start electric discharge between the metal bond grindstone 31 and the formed electrode and remove a metal portion of the grindstone 31, thus carrying out electric discharge truing/ dressing. Then, the metal bond grindstone 31 on the tool rest 6 is retracted from the formed electrode, and is brought into contact with a work W held by a chuck 5 so as to normally grind the work W.
