Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of defective points such as cavities and pinholes in a solidified sample by forming a part of a flow passage of a nonmetallic material having small thermal conductivity and delineating a sampling chamber by a nonmetallic material having small thermal conductivity and a chiller. CONSTITUTION:A container 3 has an inflow chamber 6 facing an inflow port 4 and the sampling chamber 8 which is disposed below said chamber and is communicated with the inflow chamber 6 via a reducing path 7. A barrier part 9 is projected to the proper point in the molten metal flow passage from the inflow port 4 to the sampling chamber 8. The reducing path 7 is formed of a cylindrical boss 11 provided to a partition wall 10 which partitions the inflow chamber 6 and the sampling chamber 8. This path and the inflow chamber 6 are formed of the nonmetallic material having the small thermal conductivity. The sampling chamber 8 is delineated by the bottom of the partition wall 10 consisting of the nonmetallic material and the recess 13a of the chiller 13 having the large heat conductivity. The molten metal flowing into the container collides against the barrier wall 9 and after the molten metal is stirred by the collision, the molten metal flows into the sampling chamber 8 and, therefore, the molten metal is homogeneously deoxidized. Since the molten metal advances into the sampling chamber 8 under slow cooling, the generation of the cavities and pinholes in the solidified sample is obviated.
