Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an image pickup device which can focus on the prescribed area of an object by providing a focusing means for outputting a driving signal to an actuator based on an area setting signal from an area setting means and the video signal of the object from an image pickup part. CONSTITUTION:A camera part 1 consists of an objective lens 11, the image pickup part 12 and the actuator 13 which moves the objective lens 11 in the direction of the optical axis thereof so as to alter the focusing position. A focusing means 2 consists of low and high frequency differentiators 21 and 22, a control part 23 and a driving circuit 24 and outputs from the differentiators 21 and 22 are low and high contrast signals concerning the low frequency component and high frequency component of the video signals. Based on the area setting signal from the area setting means 3 and the video signal of the object from the image pickup part 12, the focusing means 2 outputs the driving signal for focusing, with which the actuator 13 alters the distance between the objective lens 11 and the image pickup part 13 to execute the focusing for the camera part 1. Thus, the reasonable focusing can be executed and the setting of the area can be selected according to the circumstances of the object.
