Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently desulfurize exhaust gas by bringing the gas into contact with three times as much CaO as CaO stoichiometrically required to desulfurize the gas. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas generated in a smelting and reducing furnace 1 is fed to a desulfurizing part 2 and brought into contact with three times as much CaO as CaO stoichiometrically required to desulfurize the exhaust gas. By this contact, H2S in the exhaust gas is converted into CaS and the gas is desulfurized. The exhaust gas is then sent to a sintering part 3 together with the unreacted CaO and the CaO is effectively utilized as a flux in a sintering stage during the manufacture of pig iron. In the part 3 the S component in the powder escapes into the exhaust gas and the exhaust gas is treated in a subsequent exhaust gas desulfurizing part 4.
