Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for cutting work of a vertical sprue by inserting a pushing rod made of heat resistance material having almost the same shape as the vertical sprue after pouring molten metal into the vertical sprue in a mold and solidifying the molten metal at the molten metal at the vertical sprue flows over the upper part of the mold.
CONSTITUTION: By pouring the molten metal from the vertical sprue 4 in the mold 1, the casting 2 is obtd. and then, the sectional shape of the sprue 4 is formed of the sectional plane of U-shape or V-shape opening at the upper part thereof. After pouring the molten metal of cast iron or cast steel, etc., into the mold 1, the pushing rod 7 of silicon carbide reflactory having hard-to-wet to the molten metal formed with heat resistant material having almost the same shape and size as the vertical spru 4 is inserted into the vertical sprue. The molten metal in the sprue 4 is flowed to a recessed part 1a by over-flowing at the upper face of the mold. Then, at the time of pulling up the pushing rod 7, the molten metal is removed at the upper part of the vertical sprue 4 and solidified and then, the casting after shaking-out sand, is taken out under separated condition with the vertical sprue into two pieces 4a and 4b. By this method the need for cutting work of the vertical sprue 4 is eliminated.
