Abstract
PURPOSE: To predict surface defect condition on a cast slab by informing variable condition of molten metal surface and mold powder layer with thermocouples and molten metal surface detector buried into center of short side and long side in a mold.
CONSTITUTION: Plural thermocouples 30 are arranged to vertical direction at the short side in the mold, and the molten metal surface detector 10 for controlling the molten metal surface and further the molten metal surface detector 20 for measuring variation of the molten metal surface above the molten metal surface near the short side in the mold, are arranged. Signal 31 from the thermocouples 30 and signal 21 from the molten metal surface detector are inputted into a terminal box 40, further inputted into a process computor 41 and in there, each data of the temp. and the molten metal surface in time series are stored, The temp. variation at the short side in the mold with the thermocouples 30 vertically arranged at the short side in the mold and level variations of the molten metal surface and slag are detected. Then, development of the surface defect is predicted by collating relation between the above detected value and the developed surface defect with a pattern of temp. variation beforehand grasped from the actual operational results under referring the variation quantity of the molten metal surface from the molten metal surface detectors 10, 20, and it is judged whether or not, improvement of the cast slab surface is necessary.
