Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the order of sizes of all elements at high speed by using a sort comparator which compares the size of a single element with the sizes of all other elements. CONSTITUTION:The data on an address part showing the position vector of each element of a list structure are read out of a memory device and set at the element registers of secondary arithmetic units 1-3 respectively. The contents of the element register of the unit 1 are compared in parallel with those contents of the element registers of the units 1-3 via the sort comparators of the units 1-3 respectively. When the contents of the element registers of the units 1-3 are equal to or larger than the contents of the element register of the unit 1, the sort counters of the units 1-3 are counted up by 1. Then the same operations are carried out also with the contents of the element registers of the units 2 and 3. In the same way, the sort counters of the units 1-3 are counted up by 1 when the contents of the element register of the unit 2 or 3 are equal to or smaller than those of the unit 1-3 respectively. Thus it is possible to decide quickly the order of the data stored in those element registers.
