Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a very thin film having a long recording life by forming hetero junction of a specified photochromic compd. and long chain carboxylic acid, long chain alcohol, long chain ester or a mixture of such long chain compds. CONSTITUTION:Hetero junction of a photochromic compd. represented by formula I (where R is 1-31C alkyl chain) and long chain carboxylic acid, long chain alcohol, long chain ester or a mixture of such long chain compds. is formed by the Langmuir-Blodgett's (LB) technique. The stability of a coloring body can be improved by forming the hetero junction. The photochromic compd. has a good balance between hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties of the molecule by introducing a long chain alkyl group and a stable LB film is formed with only the compd. A very thin film can be formed by the LB technique.
