Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled composition giving excellent photosensitivity, color density, contrast and resolution even as a thin photosensitive layer, by dispersing a specific amount of specific photochromic spiropyran in a polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A spirpyran compound of formula (R1 and R2 are H, 1W5C alkyl, 1W5C alkoxy, 2W6C alkoxycarbonyl, or halogen; NO2 is bonded to 6'- or 8'-position), e.g. 6'-nitro-1-octadecyl-3,3-dimethylspiro(indoline-2,2'-benzopyran), is dissolved in a solvent such as toluene together with a film-forming polymer (pref. a chlorine-containing polymer such as vinylidene chloride polymer). The solution is formed to a film or applied to a substrate, and dried to obtain the photosensitive mateial for use.
USE: Memory material, copying material, and photosensitive material for printing, laser recording, and holography as a substituted for silver halide photosensitive material.
