Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a coloring matter for thermal transfer recording which has favorable sublimability and a clear cyan color, by using a coloring matter obtained by oxidation coupling of a naphthol with an aniline, as the coloring matter for thermal transfer recording. CONSTITUTION:A coloring matter of formula (I) is used. In the formula, R1 is a substd. or unsubstd. alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, R2 is a 1-4C alkoxyl, R3 is hydrogen, a 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxyl, and each of R4 and R5 is a substd. or unsubstd. An ink for thermal transfer recording can be produced from the coloring matter of formula (I) by dissolving or pulversing the coloring matter together with an appropriate binder in a solvent by use of a ball mill or the like. The binder may be an epoxy resin, a phenolic resin, an urethane resin or the like. The ink is applied to an appropriate base by a bar coater to prepare a transfer sheet. The transfer sheet and a recording material are superposed on each other, followed by heating from the back side of the sheet by heat generating elements or the like.
