Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a near infrared absorption type thermal recording material having excellent light resistance, by using a specified leuco dye and a specified color developer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material comprises a phthalide compound of formula I as a dye and a compound of formula II as a color developer. The phthalide compound of formula I may be used in combination with other leuco dye, e.g., 3,3-bis(p-dimethylaminophenyl)phthalide. In binding and supporting the leuco dye and the color developer on a base for obtaining a thermal recording material, a conventional binder such as polyvinyl alcohol may be used, as required. If required, auxiliary additive components conventionally used for producing such thermal recording materials may be jointly used. To produce the thermal recording material, the leuco dye and the color developer are separately dispersed to obtain dispersed liquids, which are mixed with an appropriate binder, and the resultant mixed liquid is applied to the base such as a paper.
