Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a cataphoretic phenomenon from occurring by installing a diode and a constant-voltage switching element in series between terminals at the nonfeeding side of a filament electrode of a discharge lamp, connecting them to a power source in the forward direction, and also connecting an induc tor in parallel with the constant-voltage switching element. CONSTITUTION:A diode 17 and a constant-voltage switching element 18 are installed in series between terminals at the nonfeeding side of a discharge lamp 15 and connected to a power source in the forward direction, then an inductor 19 is connected thereto in parallel with this constant-voltage switching element 18. Accordingly, a DC component to be contained in a current flowing in a discharge lamp load circuit 3 is bypasseed by the diode 17 and the inductor 19 connected to the nonfeeding side of the discharge lamp 15, and thereby a high frequency current component only flows in the discharge lamp 15. With this constitution, a cataphoretic phenomenon is prevented from occurring.
