Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the stable high frequency discharge excitation, by connecting the middle point of reactances of a matching circuit seen from a discharge tube to the earth point of a high frequency circuit, insulating the matching circuit from a high frequency power supply in the DC manner, and making it not be connected to the earth point of the high frequency circuit. CONSTITUTION:A matching circuit 16 to match a high frequency power supply 12 with a discharge tube 1 is constituted of inductances L1, L2 and capacitors C1, C2, C3. The middle point between the capacitors C1 and C2 is earthed. Thereby, the interference between segments of the discharge tube can be prevented. Since the matching circuit 16 is a balanced network, the same effects are obtained even if any point is earthed, in the case where the impedance seeing the high frequency power supply 12 from the discharge tube is divided into two part. T1 is an insulating transformer, and an electrode 8b is not earthed when the high frequency power supply 12 and the matching circuit 16 are mutually insulated in the DC manner. According to this constitution, there is no loop in which a mutual current flows, so that the current interference between the segments of the discharge tube can be prevented.
