Abstract
PURPOSE:To lower vibration in an up and down direction by arranging each cylinder in a W shape and at the same time, making the angle of crank pins 180 deg., and connecting the connecting rod of a central cylinder to one of the pins and the connecting rods of right and left cylinders to the other of the pins, and making the ignition timing of each cylinder at equal intervals. CONSTITUTION:Cylinders 1 and 3 are arranged obliquely and a cylinder 2 is arranged in an up and down direction, and respective axes l1-l3 meet one another at 60 deg. and form a W shape as a whole. A Crankshaft 5 is arranged directly under the cylinder 2, and crank pins 5a, 5b are formed at 180 deg. so as to oppose each other, and the connecting rod 2a of the cylinder 2 is connected to the pin 5a and the connecting rods 1a, 3a of cylinders 1, 3 are connected to the pin 5b, and an ignition timing is set at equal intervals. Accordingly, power acting upon the crank shaft 5 is reduced to a half, viz, a 1/2 time value of one cylinder portion in the up and down direction due to the unbalance of the movements of cylinders 1-3, so vibration in the up and down direction can be effectively lowered. Also, as the predetermined portions of cylinders 1-3 are arranged in an overlapped way in the front and rear direction of an engine, the length in the fore and aft direction can be shortened.
