Abstract
PURPOSE:To restrain the piston thrust from wearing the cylinders of a V-type engine and affecting the engine output by allowing the right and left cylinders to incline with respect to the cylinder block upper surface at diffeent angles. CONSTITUTION:The axes X and Y of right and left cylinders 1 and 2 are inclined with respect to the cylinder block upper surface 3 at different angles theta1 and theta2. When the crankshaft rotates in the direction of an arrow A, theta1 is to be smaller than theta2. The pistons in both cylinders 1 and 2 are diagonally cut so as to be parallel to the cylinder block upper surface 3. Thereby, the piston thrust F1 in the left cylinder 1 decreases, while the piston thrust F2 in the right cylinder 2 increases. Accordingly, the excessive piston thrust in the left cylinder 1 is decreased as well as the unbalance between the piston thrusts in both cylinders is reduced.
