Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain high-purity boron nitride in a large amount at a low cost, by placing a mixture of a boron compound with a nitrogen-containing compound in a heat-resistant vessel with a lid and heating the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A raw material boron compound and a raw material nitrogen- containing compound are mixed and the resultant mixture is then placed in a heat-resistant vessel with a lid. The vessel is subsequently heated to nitride boron atoms in the raw material compound by reductive reaction and form boron nitride. Heating of the mixture of the raw material boron compound with the raw material nitrogen-containing compound need not be carried out in an atmosphere of a reducing gas or inert gas or nonoxidizing gas as in a conventional method. Furthermore, the heating can be suitably carried out even in an oxidizing atmosphere which cannot be conventionally used. NH4, Na, K, Mg, Ca salts, etc., are cited as borates of the boron compound used. Urea, melamine, mellon, melam, melem, etc., are cited as the nitrogen-containing compound having NH2 groups.
