Abstract
PURPOSE:To impart a common electrode suitable to obtain a low-cost thermal head, by a method wherein a main body part of the common electrode has a three-layer construction consisting of a first layer of a gold formed as an integral part of connecting parts, a second layer of a silver-palladium alloy partially overlapped thereon, and a third layer of a silver partially overlapped thereon. CONSTITUTION:On an alumina substrate 1 having a heat-accumulating layer 2 made of a glaze etc., a gold paste is printed and baked, and discrete electrodes 3, connecting parts 4 of a common electrode, and a gold electrode layer 5-1 as an integral part of the connecting parts 4 are simultaneously formed by photolitho etching. Thereafter, a silver-palladium alloy layer 5-2 is formed by a method wherein a silver and palladium paste is printed and baked so as to be approximately 300mum in line width and overlap with the gold electrode layer 5-1 at a part A, for example, of 100-150mum width. Furthermore, a silver electrode layer 5-3 is disposed apart from the gold electrode layer 5-1 and is formed so as to be, for example, 1.5mm in line width, approximately 7mum in thickness, and 228mm in length and overlap with the silver-palladium alloy layer 5-2 at a part B, for example, of 100-150mum width. In this manner, a main body part 5 of the common electrode is formed with a three-layer construction.
