Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a recording film against oxidation and corrosion by using a film formed by coating the surface part of a nitride with the oxide of the constituting element thereof as a protective film and/or interference film. CONSTITUTION:The thin oxide film 4 is disposed on the surface part of the nitride film 1 by introducing oxygen into said part to oxidize the surface part at the time of forming the nitride. The stable film such as SiO film in the case of an SiN film and Al2O3 film in the case of an AlN film is, therefore, formed. Internal stresses are relieved by the formation of such film and the exfoliation of the film from the substrate by the deterioration with lapse of time is obviated. The magneto-optical disk which is decreased in pinholes and is extended in the life by the protective film having the high resistance to corrosion and oxidation is thereby obtd.
