Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer having excellent curing properties and packing properties in molding, by reacting formaldehyde with a phenol in a specific ratio in the presence of a Ca(OH)2 catalyst, further adding ammonia and carrying out reaction.
CONSTITUTION: First, formaldehyde is reacted with a phenol in the molar ratio of the former/the latter of 1.2W1.3 in the presence of a Ca(OH)2 catalyst. Then ammonia is added to the reaction system and further the reaction is carried out to give the aimed resin. Preferably the amounts of formaldehyde and the phenol used are 0.2W0.5% and 0.2W1% based on total amounts of formaldehyde and the phenol, respectively.
