Abstract

PURPOSE: To store perishable articles for a long term by introducing carbon dioxide gas into a storage chamber upon elapsing a predetermined time after cooling it and increasing concentration of carbon dioxide gas while decreasing concentration of oxygen thereby lowering aspiration of the perishable articles in the chamber gradually. CONSTITUTION: A storage chamber 1 is cooled by a cooling unit 2 upon turning an operation start switch on and carbon dioxide gas is introduced into the chamber 1 from a carbon dioxide gas supply unit 7 upon elapsing 24 hours. Consequently, concentration of carbon dioxide gas increases while that of oxygen decreases. When the switch 9 is turned off, the units 2, 7 are stopped. Since aspiration of perishable articles is suppressed by increasing concentration of carbon dioxide gas or decreasing that of oxygen after aspiration is suppressed by cooling and settled, aspiration can be lowered gradually without applying any burden on the physiological action of the perishable articles.
