Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove a gas generated from a vegetable or fruit and retain the freshness thereof, by circulating nitrogen gas repalced the atmosphere in a store house through a gas adsorbent and the store house. CONSTITUTION:A vegetable or fruit is contained in a store house 1, and nitrogen gas is introduced from a pipe 2 to expel the air from the store house 1 by a fan 3 and replace the inside thereof with the nitrogen gas. After replacing the store house 1 with the nitrogen gas, the gas therein is circulated through an adsorbing apparatus 4 and the store house 1, and if necessary the temperature of the inside is kept at a given value by a cooling apparatus 7. An oxygen adsorbent, gaseous carbon dioxide adsorbent or ethylenealdehyde adsorbent is suitably selected and used as an adsorbent in the apparatus 4.
