Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an anionic matte electrodeposition coating excellent in finish free of unevennesses of gloss and streak, by mixing a specified vinyl copolymer with a thermoplastic resin and a flaky pigment. CONSTITUTION:An electrodeposition coating composition containing a water-soluble or water-dispersible vinyl copolymer (A) having an alkoxysilane group as a side chain, a thermoplastic resin (B) and a flaky pigment (C) as components. The vinyl copolymer (A) used is a copolymer having an alkoxysilane group-containing vinyl monomer (1), an alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid (2), a hydroxylated acrylic monomer (3) and another radical- polymerizable unsaturated monomer (4) as monomer components. The use of thermoplastic resin (B), especially, a wax, a polyolefin or a fluorocarbon resin is advantageous in that a matte paint film excellent in finish can be formed.
