Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which can be easily and uniformly applied to a core fiber material and gives an optical fiber excellent in strength, light transmission, flexibility, etc., by mixing a compound obtained by reacting a specified fluorinated copolymer with an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a specified group with a monomer for viscosity control and a photopolymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:The title composition comprising 10-90pts.wt. compound obtained by reacting a fluorinated copolymer (A) comprising 50-99.7wt.% polyfluoroorgano group-containing acrylic monomer (A) [e.g., a compound of formula I (wherein X<1> is H, Cl, F, CH3, trifluoromethyl and Rf is a polyfluoroorgano group)] and 0.3-50wt.% glycidyl group-containing acrylic monomer [e.g., a compound of formula II (wherein X2 is H, Cl, F, CH3 or trifluoromethyl)] with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic monomer [e.g., (meth)acrylic acid], 10-90pts.wt. monomer (B) for viscosity control [e.g., (meth) acrylic ester] and 0.05-20pts.wt. photoporimerization initiator. This composition can be easily and uniformly applied to a core fiber material, and the obtained optical fiber is excellent in strengths, light transmission, flexibility, etc.
