Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a reversible thermal recording material imparting extremely high contrast, by together using a substance controlling the crystal growth of an org. low- molecular substance in the components of a reversible thermal recording layer and combining said thermal recording layer with a light reflecting layer. CONSTITUTION:In a reversible thermal recording material consisting of a reversible thermal recording layer, which is based on a resin matrix material, the org. low- molecular substance dispersed therein and a substance for controlling the crystal growth of said org. low-molecular substance, and a light reflecting layer, by selectively heating a heating body, white turbid image can be formed on a transparent area and a transparent image can be formed on a white turbid area and the change thereof can be repeated many times. A solution of the resin matrix material, the org. low- molecular substance and the substance controlling the crystal growth of the org. low- molecular substance is applied to a support such as a plastic film, a glass plate or a metal plate and dried to form the thermal layer. As the resin matrix material, a resin having good transparency, mechanically stable and having a good film forming property is pref. and the org. low-molecular substance pref. has a m.p. of about 30-200 deg.C. The light reflecting layer is formed, for example, by using Al, Au, Cu, Ag, Ti or an alloy thereof to form a metal membrane.
