In this case, when the object air-fuel ratio is transferred from the rich side to the lean side, the ignition kept at the value of the air-fuel ratio rich, that is, at the lag angle side, regardless of the actual air-fuel ratio, until a TDC signal pulse is generated in specific rounds. And after the TDC signal pulse is generated in the specific rounds, the ignition timing is controlled at the value for the air-fuel ratio pole lean or for the air-fuel ratio rich according to whether the actual air-fuel ratio is in the pole lean area or not. Since the actual air-fuel ratio is controlled to the advanced angle side after controlled to the object air-fuel ratio which is the value of the pole lean side accordingly, the generation of knocking can be prevented securely, and the operational property can be improved.
