Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect a magnetic layer as well as to provide excellent lubricity with a head to the titled disk and to improve the long-period reliability and yield thereof by forming the magnetic layer, the protective film in which particles of a material having high wear resistance are dispersed and a lubricating film having self-lubricity successively on a substrate.
CONSTITUTION: The protective film 6 made of, for example, an amorphous carbon film is formed on the magnetic layer 4 of a magnetic disk 1A. The particles 7 consisting of the material such as diamond having the high wear resistance are dispersed in this protective film 6. The resistance to the wear by the head is, therefore, improved. The lubricating film 8 which is made of the material such as amorphous carbon or graphite having the self-lubricity and has a smooth surface is formed on the protective film 6. The lubricity of the magnetic disk 1A is improved and the head parting at the time of rotation is simultaneously improved by this lubricating film 8.
