The bumper structure shown in FIG. 1 has an energy absorber 2 formed in a resin foam or honeycomb shape disposed on the front side of an armature 1 formed in a closed cross-sectional structure, and this energy absorber 2 is placed above and below the armature 1. The end portion is held by a resin fascia 4 secured to the upper and lower surfaces of the armature 1 with bolts and nuts 3.

In addition, the bumper structure shown in FIG. 2 has an open section structure for the armature 1 in order to improve the efficiency of introducing outside air into the engine room (not shown), and a horizontal shelf 5 is formed on the upper part of the armature. The rear upper part 2a of the energy absorber 2 is placed on the section 5, and the energy absorber 2 is held by the fascia 4 which is fixed to the armature 1 with a clip 3'.

However, in such conventional bumper structures, the lower surface portion 2b of the energy absorber 2
is only supported by the fascia 4, so when a downward light load G is applied from the upper part of the fascia 4, the lower surface of the fascia 4 cannot sufficiently support the light load G and bends downward. As a result, the energy absorber 2 slides downward on the smooth front wall 1a of the armature 1, which tends to impair the appearance quality of the bumper as a whole and reduces the energy absorption characteristics in the event of a collision. It had a problem.

This invention was devised in view of the current situation, and its purpose is to prevent the energy absorber from being easily deformed by downward loads without deteriorating the energy absorption performance against light collision loads. The present invention aims to provide a bumper structure that can maintain its appearance quality over time.

In order to achieve this object, in the present invention, an energy absorber is disposed on the front side of the armature, and this energy absorber is held by a fascia whose upper and lower ends are fixed to the upper and lower surfaces of the armature. In the bumper structure, the armature is bent stepwise toward the front of the vehicle body to form horizontal shelves at the middle and lower ends of the armature, and energy absorbers are placed on the upper and lower horizontal shelves. It is configured to be placed and held.

In this embodiment, the armature 10 connected to a bumper stay (not shown) has a closed cross-sectional structure with a first member 11 having a substantially L-shaped side surface and a second member 12 bent into a step shape. It is formed.

Therefore, in the bumper structure according to this embodiment, the energy absorber 2
Since the rear upper part 12a and the lower end part 2b are held respectively, even if a light downward load G is applied to the upper surface of the fascia 4 and the energy absorber 2 is compressively deformed downward. However, the energy absorber 2 is supported by the upper horizontal shelf part 12a and the lower horizontal shelf part 12b of the armature 10, which is a rigid body, and is supported in such a manner that the compressive deformation load is distributed between them. Therefore, the load applied to the lower surface of the fascia 4 becomes small and bending deformation is prevented, and the light load G is removed without causing the energy absorber 2 to slide downward and become deformed. Afterwards, it returns to its current position.
