Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain machine structural parts having increased fatigue strength, especially a gear by subjecting a steel contg. specified amounts of C, Si and Mn to induction hardening. CONSTITUTION:The composition of a steel is composed of 0.3-0.6wt% C, 0.4-2wt% Si, 0.4-2wt% Mn and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The composition may further contain <2wt% Cr. The steel is subjected to induction hardening to obtain machine structure parts. For example, in case of a gear, the steel is subjected to induction hardening with high frequency giving 3-10 proportional constant A in the formula [where f is frequency (kHz) and m is the module of the gear].
