Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable an ink film to be repeatedly used, by a system wherein an ink film provided with a multiplicity of minute holes is brought into close contact with a conductive layer, and a return circuit electrode is provided for an electric current returned from a needle electrode through a current-passing layer and the conductive layer. CONSTITUTION:The needle electrode 4 is provided on the current-passing layer 1 side of a base film 3, and the return circuit electrode 5 is provided on the layer 1 side. The ink film 6 provided with a multiplicity of minute holes 6a is brought into close contact with the conductive layer 2 of the base film 3, and the holes 6a are filled with an ink 7. With a voltage impressed on the needle electrode 4, and electric current flows into the conductive layer 2 through the current-passing layer 1, and is returned to the return circuit electrode 5 through the layer 2. The contact area of the return circuit electrodes 5 is set to be sufficiently large as compared with that of the needle electrode 4. Due to the resistance difference between the layers 1, 3, heat is rapidly generated at the interface 3a therebetween, whereby the ink is heated at the interface to generated a bubble, the ink is caused to fly out, and is adhered to a recording medium 8, thereby recording.

The current-carrying layer 1 has a certain resistance value, and the conductive layer 2 has negligible resistance, and the base film 3 is constructed by laminating the current-carrying layer 1 and the conductive layer 2 one above the other. A needle electrode 4 is provided on the current-carrying layer 1 side of the base film 3, and a return electrode 5 is provided on the current-carrying layer 1 side remote from this electrode 4. Further, an ink film 6 having a large number of small holes 6α is closely attached to the conductive layer 2 of the base film 3, and the small holes 6a of the ink film 6 are filled with ink 7.

The contact area of the return electrode 5 must be sufficiently resistive compared to that of the needle electrode 4. Then, heat is suddenly generated at the interface 3α due to the difference in resistance between the two layers 1 and 3, the ink is heated on that surface, bubbles are generated, the ink is ejected, and it adheres to the recording medium 8 and recording is performed. .

A resistive layer is created by adding conductive carbon, metal powder, etc. to a resin such as urethane. Alternatively, a metallic resistor such as indium or tungsten can be formed by vapor deposition or sputtering. The conductive layer 2 can be formed by vapor deposition of aluminum or the like, or can be made of stainless steel film, copper film, chrome film, or the like. The porous ink film 6 can be made of metal by etching, electrohoming, etc., or can be made by etching a resin film, etc. The ink is liquid and can be either water-based or oil-based, and its boiling point is 1.
