Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable efficient recording and a simpler device construction, by providing a needle electrode on the current-passing layer side of an ink film and providing a return circuit electrode on the ink layer side. CONSTITUTION:The ink film is constituted of the current-passing layer 1 having a resistance, a conductive layer 2 having little resistance and a conductive ink layer 3, the needle electrode 5 is provided in the state of being pressed against the layer 1 side of the ink film 4, and the return circuit electrode 6 is provided in the state of being pressed against the ink layer 3 side. The contact area of the electrode 6 is set to be sufficiently larger than that of the electrode 5. Accordingly, heat is rapidly generated between the layer 1, 2 having a difference in resistance and between the layers 2, 3 whereby an ink is melted and is adhered to a recording medium 7, thereby achieving efficient recording, and the return circuit electrode can be provided with a simple construction. In addition, the construction of the device can be simplified.

In FIG. 1, an ink film 4 is constructed from a current-carrying layer 1 having resistance, a conductive layer 2 having almost no resistance, and an ink layer 3 having conductivity.
A needle electrode 5 is pressed against the current-carrying layer 1, and a return electrode 6 is pressed against the ink layer 3. Further, a recording medium 7 is disposed in close contact with the ink layer side.

In the embodiment, when pulsed power is applied to the needle electrode 5, the current passes through the current-carrying layer 1, the conductive layer 2, and flows into the return electrode 6 as shown in the figure. At this time, it is assumed that the return electrode 6 has a sufficiently larger contact area than the needle electrode 5. Then, rapid heat generation occurs between the conductive layer 1 and the conductive layer 2, which have a difference in resistance, and between the conductive layer 2 and the ink layer 3, and the ink melts and adheres to the recording medium 7.
