Abstract

PURPOSE:To enlarge a clearly visible angle range by sealing in liquid crystals between two sheets of glass having transparent electrodes, deviating each deflecting plate in deflecting direction by 90 deg. from each other, bonding each plate to both outside of the glass sheets, respectively, and finely roughening the surface of the deflecting plate on the side to be observed. CONSTITUTION:The incident light on the deflecting plate 5 at right angles thereto is deflected with the liquid crystals 3 molecules aligned in parallel to glass sheets 2, 4, and transmitted out of the deflecting plate 6 through the plates 6. The light is scattered with the fine roughness formed on the surface of the plate 6 to enlarge the range of a clearly observable angles, thus permitting the problem of the narrow clearly visible angle range of the liquid crystal display device to be solved.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Technical Field] Liquid crystal display devices are used as display devices for various devices, taking advantage of their low power consumption. Also, in recent years,
Their use as an image display device to replace the cathode ray tube in televisions has been attracting attention, but one challenge is to find a technology to widen the narrow range of clear viewing angles, which is a disadvantage of liquid crystal display devices.

A conventional liquid crystal display device, as shown in Figures 1-6 and 1-b, consists of two parallel glasses 2 each having transparent electrodes.
, 4, with a liquid crystal 3 sealed between them, and a deflection plate 1 attached to the outside of two glasses 2 and 4 with their deflection axes shifted by 90 degrees from each other.
It consists of 5.

The inner surfaces of the two glasses 2 and 4 are subjected to an alignment treatment such as rubbing, and when no voltage is applied between the two glasses 2 and 4, as shown in Figure 1-6. As shown, the molecules of liquid crystal 3 are regularly arranged in the same direction as the rubbing direction, and the incident light that enters the liquid crystal display device at right angles is transmitted through the two glasses.
The liquid crystals 3 arranged parallel to the planes 2 and 4 are deflected, and light passes through the liquid crystal display device. This time two pieces of glass -2
, 4, when a voltage exceeding the threshold of the liquid crystal is applied, in the case of a liquid crystal with positive anisotropy, the molecules align in the direction perpendicular to the two glasses -2 and 4. In contrast, since the incident light from the light source passes through as is, the incident light is blocked by the two polarizing plates -1 and 5 which are shifted by 90 degrees from each other. Therefore, an arbitrary image can be obtained on the liquid crystal display device depending on whether or not a voltage is applied to the transparent electrode formed depending on the purpose of display. In such conventional liquid crystal display devices, there is a limit to the direction of clear vision, and the more you look away from the direction of the liquid crystal molecules arranged at right angles to the two glasses 2 and 4, the more normal the image will look. Especially when used as an image display device such as a television, it becomes difficult to view due to the limited viewing angle.

In the present invention, fine irregularities are provided on the surface of the deflection plate 1 on the clear viewing side, and the transmitted incident light is dispersed by the fine irregularities on the surface of the deflection plate 6, thereby widening the range of the clear viewing angle. It is an unfolded liquid crystal display device.
