Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a satisfactory display in a wide visual field by providing plural areas where the rubbing direction is the opposite direction, on an oriented film corresponding to a picture element. CONSTITUTION:On one glass substrate 3, a display use transparent electrode 1-1 of a picture element unit, an oriented film 2-1, and a thin film transistor 7 for driving the transparent electrode 1-1 are formed, the oriented film 2-1 is formed by polyimide, and also, a band-shaped spacer 6 consisting of polyimide is formed thereon, and in areas I, II of the oriented film 2-1, which are divided into two by this band-shaped spacer 6, a rubbing processing in the opposite direction is executed. Also, on the other plate 4, a transparent electrode 1-2 being common to the picture element, and an oriented film 2-2 are formed, the oriented film 2-2 is divided into two or areas I, II by a picture element unit by the spacer 6, and in its divided areas, the rubbing processing in the opposite direction is executed. Accordingly, an electro-optical characteristic of a liquid crystal display panel goes to near a characteristic by which theta is 0 deg., even if the visual angle theta is + or -10 deg.. In such a way, the visual angle of a satisfactory display is expanded to + or -10 deg..
