Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of electrostatic hazards by providing transparent conductive films to the surface of polarizing plates and connecting these films to the circuit ground. CONSTITUTION:A glass substrate 21 formed with a common electrode 23 on the surfaces of color filters 22 and a glass substrate 28 formed with a-SiTFTs and pixel electrodes 27 are combined by interposing liquid crystals 33 therebetween. The surfaces of the respective glass substrates have the polarizing plates 19, 30 formed with the transparent conductive films 18, 31. The color liquid crystal display is embodied by driving the a-SiTFTs to impress electric fields to the liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystals 33 for each of the picture elements and controlling the transmitted light of a back light. As a result, the static electricity is allowed to escape to the circuit ground by the transparent conductive films 18, 31, by which the electrostatic hazards are prevented. Then, the static electricity generated on the liquid crystal display surface is allowed to escape completely to the ground by forming the transparent conductive films and meshes on the outer surfaces of the polarizing plates and connecting the films to the circuit ground.

As described above, according to the present invention, by forming a transparent conductive film or mesh on the outer surface of a polarizing plate and connecting these to a circuit ground, all static electricity generated on the liquid crystal display surface is released to the ground. As a result, static electricity is conventionally 1 to 10 kv on the display surface.
What had occurred was improved to 0.1 kv or less, and even if it was 10% or more as an electrostatic trouble, it was improved to 1% or less.
