Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the coercive force of a magnetic thin film by providing a slit, etc. to the magnetic thin film to set easily the magnetic anisotropic hard direction vertically to the surface of a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic thin film 4 containing a slit is formed on a ceramic substrate 1 by sputtering process, etc. The hard direction of the film 4 is easily turned toward the surface of a magnetic recording medium owing to the form dependent characteristics of the film 4. Thus the coercive force of the film 4 is reduced and a magnetic head with improved output/reproduction characteristics is attained.
